Multiseptated Gallbladder

Images

Figure 1

Clinical History:

A 26-year-old female complained epigastric pain was examined with abdominal ultrasonography that the gallbladder showed multiple septations projecting into the lumen. There was no wall thickening and cholelithiasis. The appearance was suggestive of a multiseptate gallbladder.

Findings:

Fig. 1: Right subcostal axial sonogram shows multiple septations in the gallbladder lumen.

Diagnosis:

Multiseptate Gallbladder

Discussion:

Multiseptated gallbladder is thought to be a congenital malformation. The differential diagnoses to be considered are desquamated gallbladder mucosa and the hyperplastic cholecystoses . Desquamated gallbladder mucosa, an unusual finding in acute cholecystitis, is seen as multiple linear, nonshadowing densities within the gallbladder lumen (1).

This is indeed a rare case.
Cystic lymphangioma is also a differential although age of presentation in this case doesn't favour it.

Thank you for your precious comments. I don't know whether patient had surgery or not. Because I can't reach patient.
